Interactive Session on Sustainability and Circularity on 19th July 2024 at TEA

A hands-on workshop on Sustainability and circularity was organized by Arizona state university and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in collaboration with Fair Trade India and TEA at the Padmashri Dr. A. Sakthivel Auditorium, Tiruppur Exporters Association today 19th July 2024.
Vice President of Tiruppur Exporters Association Mr. V. Elangovan, Treasurer Mr. R. Gopalakrishnan, Joint Secretary Mr. Kumar Duraisamy, Dean of Amrita School of Business Dr. Nava Subramaniam, Dr. Rajesh Bach and Dr. Rim Jim Agarwal of Arizona State University inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. The meeting was co-ordinated by Research Scholar at Amrita University Professor Urvashi Baid, Professor at Amrita School of Business Dr. Balasubramaniam, Dr. Payel Das and Dr. Tripti Basant.
Vice President of TEA Mr. V. Elangovan in his key note address proudly mentioned that Tirupur exporters are the fore runners in the production of green garments. Under Sustainable Production the Tirupur Cluster has achieved Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) and recycle and reuse 13 Crore Liters of Water every day. He also said that activities of Sustainable production principles such as ZLD, green energy, textile waste management etc. are very necessary in the future.
Treasurer Mr. R. Gopalakrishnan in his special address elaborated on the challenges faced and the methods he adopted to achieve the status of world’s first Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) dye plant. He also mentioned that there are still many jobs in Tirupur where 85% of women are engaged in employment.
Dean of Amrita School of Business –Dr. Nava Subramaniam noted that Amrita University is a leader in India in adopting the principles of Sustainability and Circularity. She also said that the University encourages their students to become Entrepreneurs following strict sustainable production and achieve circularity.
Dr. Rajesh Bach and Dr. Rim Jim Aggarwal , Professors of Arizona State University gave a presentation on the UN’s vision of Environment Social Governance, the recent legislations brought forward in various countries in EU and United States of America, the Four level implementation phases from 2023 to 2034 and the position of Indian Government on the Sustainable Production through a PowerPoint Presentation. They said, by adhering to these, all producers can achieve the goals of Sustainability.
Mr. Kumar Duraiswamy, Joint Secretary of Tiruppur Exporters Association in his concluding remarks said that awareness has been created among Tiruppur manufacturers on the Sustainable Production Techniques including Zero Liquid Discharge(ZLD), Green Power Generation(Wind and Solar), Mass Tree Plantations, Cleaning and maintaining of Ponds, adoption of Government Schools, Road Facility, Cancer Hospital, Building and Maintenance of Crematorium, Dialysis Centres, Rain Water Harvesting, Medical Camps, creating more Employment opportunities for women. The Association is taking efforts to bring these facts to international platforms whenever possible. It is certain that through this we will have an opportunity to get more business at the international level. He said that the association will continue to implement all the activities for development of Tiruppur.
